Trainee Bursary Scheme 2018
We are pleased to confirm the continuation of the Trainee Bursary Scheme for 2018. In the last round 52 trainees received funding to a total of £65300 to pursue extracurricular projects. Examples of the feedback from a number of these projects can be found in the Documents section at the bottom of this page.
In this round we will accepting applications for activities that will enhance your development but are not part of the core curriculum. The closing date for applications is 11:59pm on Sunday 21 October 2018. All applications will be reviewed by a panel and we anticipate notifying applicants of the results before the Christmas break.
The application form with all the information you need is attached. Please read the instructions carefully, as your application may be rejected if you don’t complete it properly. You may submit one application only, and only one activity per application form. It should be typed following the instructions on the form and emailed to us at StudyLeaveBursary.EM@hee.nhs.uk.
Please note that late or incomplete applications will be rejected by the panel; it is your responsibility to ensure that your application is completed appropriately and submitted by the deadline. Applications will not be pre-reviewed for errors. Failure to follow the instructions given may result in you being disqualified from the Scheme.
Only one form per applicant will be accepted.
The scheme is intended to support a single activity; you can claim for different aspects of the activity (e.g. travel, accommodation, course fees), but your application can only be for a single activity.
Applications will be accepted for activities that have taken/will take place between 1 April 2018 and 31 March 2019. Receipts will be required for activities that have already taken place.
Everyone currently on a formal training programme managed by HEE East Midlands, and who will be when the activity is completed, can apply. If you are not currently employed by an East Midlands training site (e.g. you are Out of Programme) and still will not be once your activity is completed, please include this in your application so that we can prepare alternative funding arrangements. Please note that period of grace is not classed as training time.
Masters applications may be considered by the panel, but will receive lower weighting than other applications.
This will be done the same way as standard CSL applications; you will need to pay for and attend the activity first, then claim the money back through your employer's expenses process. If you are not currently employed by an East Midlands training site (e.g. you are Out of Programme), please include this in your application so that we can prepare alternative funding arrangements.
The same costs can be claimed as for other CSL applications; course fees, travel, accommodation, subsistence etc. These will be paid at the same rates as specified in the CSL Policy (£0.28 per mile for driving, up to £55 per night for overnight hotel accommodation, up to £25 per night for staying with freinds/family, up to £20 per day for food).
Other costs may be considered, if included in your initial application, but may not be accepted/may be only partially accepted, subject to the panel's decision.
Yes; just be clear in your application that your abstract hasn't been accepted yet. Please note that we will only grant reimbursement of funds subject to your abstract being accepted.
